Concrete Form Work Info

Form used in Dallas construction are built in as many different shapes as there are projects.

For some structures, the footing and foundation merge with the rest of the structure.  In these cases, it is often difficult to tell the differences between the substructure and the superstructure.  Smokestacks and dams are two examples.  Form work is important to quality construction with these structures.  A slip form allows the construction of a large smokestack in one continuous pour.

The form is moved up the stack at the rate at which the concrete cures.  This requires very careful calculations regarding the amount of water in the concrete as well as careful control of the curing process.  The advantage of slip casting a smokestack is that, when completed, the stack is without seams.  This makes a very strong, as well as economical, smokestack.  Some large stacks require continuous pours over several days or weeks.

Another example of slip forming is using a guard rail or large retaining wall for new highway construction.  It is a strong and efficient method used in concrete rail construction.
