Problem: Sunken concrete - Concrete slabs sink and heave out of position as a result of poor subbase drainage. Excess moisture in the ground causes the soil to expand and contract to a greater degree as the water freezes and thaws. Small-scale problems can sometimes be treated by lifting sunken slabs and backfilling them with new concrete - but a better solution is to demolish the existing slab, create a new subbase with better drainage, and re-pour the concrete surface.
