The foundation of any construction project is critical to the completed work. Without a well-designed and constructed foundation, a structure will not withstand the forces of nature. All construction projects have foundations. Sometimes these foundations are very extensive such as those for large high rise buildings. Other times, the concrete foundation is very simple such as that of a road that is built on gravel. If doing minor DIY work, remember to brush concrete bonding adhesive onto the repair area, including the surfaces surrounding the crack or cracks.
The bonding adhesive helps create better adhesion between the repair materials and old concrete surfaces. Allow the bonding adhesive to dry according to the instructions on the label. If the concrete crack is deeper than 1/2 inch thick, you may want the professionals at Overall Concrete to help. You can also use sand in this instance. Pack the sand into the crack with a thin dowel. The sand simply allows you to conserve more expensive patching compounds. Do not dampen or soak the sand.
